Chicago (UPDATE 4/21/12)

This could very well be about the Chicago word and warning I got the other day. This is an old article, but I was made aware of this issue this morning on Fox News. They have an article today about the fears concerning the protests primarily by the Occupy people. This will be the first NATO Summit to ever be held in the USA.

Protesters: We’re still coming to Chicago for NATO
Published March 06, 2012
Associated Press
CHICAGO – Protesters who’ve been planning for months to converge on Chicago for a pair of important world meetings this spring say they have a message: No G-8? No problem.
The decision by the White House to move the Group of 8 economic summit to Camp David while the NATO summit remains in Chicago might have split the reasons to protest. But it won’t diminish the number of people — tens of thousands, by some estimates — who plan to come to Chicago for a rally and march to protest everything from war to poverty, said Andy Thayer, a leader of the Chicago Coalition Against War and Racism and the Gay Liberation Network and one of the principle planners of the Chicago protests.
“Guess what? The protests are going to happen anyway because if (protesters) are upset about G-8, they have just as much reason to be upset about NATO,” Thayer said.
The Coalition Against NATO/G8 War & Poverty Agenda obtained city permits to hold a rally in Daley Plaza downtown and march to the McCormick Place convention center about two miles to the south on May 19 — only now there won’t be any meetings that day. The NATO summit will be held over the following two days, and discussions are expected to include the war in Afghanistan.
Protest organizers on Tuesday applied for permits to rally and march May 20, because “we believe we have the right to … get within sight and sound of the summit,” said Joe Iosbaker, head of the United National Antiwar Committee in Chicago.
The presidential retreat outside Washington, where the G-8 meetings will be held May 18-19, is far more secure than downtown Chicago and it would be difficult, if not impossible, for protesters to get close to the meetings.
The White House said the economic summit was moved “to facilitate a free-flowing discussion with our close G-8 partners,” on economic, political and security issues.
Some protesters took that as a sign they’d run the summit out of town.
“It’s a major victory for those of us who are planning these protests,” Iosbaker said. “The administration is taking G-8 someplace where they won’t have to face the people who suffer under their policies.”
Rank-and-file police officers are somewhat relieved but still worry they’re ill-prepared to face an unknown number of people, some of whom they fear could become violent, said Mike Shields, president of the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police.
“Nobody knows how many protesters there will be” or how long protest might last, he said. “The problem … is that cities that have hosted summits in the past began training two years before the event. In Chicago’s case, we began training at the end of 2011.
“I think the Obama administration had to pull the G-8 from Chicago over security concerns and the lack of confidence in Chicago’s preparedness,” Shields said.
White House national security spokesman Tommy Vietor said security and the possibility of protests were not factors in the decision. He said Camp David, the rustic retreat in the mountains of Maryland, was a setting that would allow for more intimate discussions.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel and police officials have insisted they could handle any trouble. Chicago has had fewer problems with the Occupy protests than many other cities, and police officials had been consulting with other departments about how to handle large protests. Even so, many downtown businesses have been preparing for the possibility of riots.
Chicago police spokeswoman Melissa Stratton said Monday’s news won’t change how the department prepares for the NATO summit. Members of the city’s host committee said they still expect about 7,500 people to attend the meetings.
“Our preparation and priorities remain the same — ensuring the public safety of our communities throughout the city, those participating in the summit as attendees as well as protecting the First Amendment rights of those who wish to exercise them,” Stratton said in a written statement.
Joe Lombardo, a retired state worker from New York and co-coordinator of United National Antiwar Coalition, said he believes the administration was hoping to divide the protests, especially because the Occupy movement largely was centered on economic issues. He said some people might reassess their plans for Chicago, but he believes “tens of thousands” of people from groups in the U.S. and several other countries still will protest here.
“All around the country, people are very, very interested in this,” he said.
National Nurses United, the nation’s largest nurses union, is re-evaluating its plans, though union spokesman Chuck Idelson said it may be too late to make a change. The group has been planning to join protesters in Chicago to call on world leaders to adopt a so-called “Robin Hood” tax on major trading by banks and other financial institutions.
Another group, Grassroutes Caravan, which wants to call attention to environmental issues, has no plans to stay home. Twenty people have signed up so far to join the bike ride from Madison, Wis., to Chicago, said spokeswoman Thistle Pettersen.
She said the group’s theme is “‘No blood for oil.’ We don’t want wars for fossil fuels when we can use our own people power for transportation.”

A 6.9 magnitude earthquake has jolted Mexico’s California peninsula. The tremor’s epicenter was 10.3 kilometers below the surface, and 133 kilometers from the town of Guerrero Negro.
No data about the quake’s consequences is available at the moment.
The shock follows a less powerful 6.4 tremor that shook the mountains of western Mexico on Wednesday. It made tall buildings sway in Mexico City, 322 kilometers away, sending people rushing out of buildings on to the streets.
This was the latest strong earthquake to jolt the planet in the last 24 hours.
On Wednesday, an 8.6 quake off Indonesia was followed by a series of powerful aftershocks up to 8.2 in magnitude. Five people died as a result. The tremors off Sumatra’s Aceh province put the entire Indian Ocean region on tsunami alert, prompting people in coastal cities to rush for higher ground.
A tsunami that followed a similar earthquake off Aceh in 2004 killed nearly 230,000 people, most of them in Indonesia.
Mexico has been no stranger to quakes in recent weeks.
On March 20, a powerful 7.4 shock struck the country’s southwest, killing two and injuring 13 people. Thousands of houses were damaged. The quake was followed by hundreds of aftershocks, ending with a 6.3 magnitude jolt that rocked southwestern and central Mexico on April 2.

Oleg Starovoit, PhD, deputy director of the Geophysical Service of Russia’s Academy of Sciences, stressed to RT that the earthquake off Sumatra was extremely powerful.
“Had it happened in a densely populated area, the resulting damage would have been catastrophic,” he said.
Fortunately, the feared tsunami never happened, because the subplates of the seabed dislocated in a horizontal direction, not a vertical one. Otherwise, the devastating tsunami of 2004, which wrecked the same region, could have been repeated.
“The region we are talking about (the earth’s crust near Sumatra) has come alive and will be shaking for a long period of time. There have been repeated aftershocks of up to 5.6 in magnitude. My estimates are, it will take a month or even longer for this process to calm down,” Starovoit estimates.
The scientist also pointed out that the Indonesian earthquake consisted of two very powerful shocks, 8.5 and 8.2 in magnitude, with further tremors after just a couple of hours.
“This is definitely a phenomenon out of the ordinary, that needs profound research and examination,” Oleg Starovoit concluded.

Major earthquakes hit off US, Mexico coasts

An earthquake of magnitude 7.0 was reported on Mexico’s Pacific Coast on Wednesday, following on the heels of a major but lesser quake off the coasts of Oregon.
The Mexican earthquake reportedly was centered in a sparsely populated area in the mountains of western Mexico but still caused tall buildings to sway more than 200 miles away in Mexico City.
People evacuated some buildings in the capital, but the city government said helicopter flights had detected no signs of damage. Authorities in Michoacan state, where the tremor was centered, also had no immediate reports of damage.
A quake of this magnitude is considered a major earthquake, but this one hit about 41 miles below the surface and a tremor’s power to cause damage is often dissipated when it is so deep.
The magnitude 5.9 earthquake off the U.S. coast struck about 160 miles west-northwest of the coastal city of Bandon, Ore., with no reports of damage.
Doug Gibbons of the U.S. Geological Survey says the earthquake is not related to two massive earthquakes in Indonesia on Wednesday.
No tsunami warnings have been issued at this time for the North American quakes.
Wednesday’s tremor was the latest in a series of strong shakes to hit Mexico City since a powerful 7.4-magnitude quake hit southern Mexico three weeks ago, but this was not an aftershock of that one, USGS geophysicist Dale Grant said.
“It’s a different earthquake. We are calling it an individual earthquake,” Grant said. “There’s a potential for aftershocks.”
Last month’s big earthquake was felt strongly in the nation’s capital, and it damaged hundreds of homes and killed at least two people near the border between Guerrero and Oaxaca states. Mexico’s seismological service said that quake has been followed by close to 400 aftershocks, including one of magnitude 6.0.
A quake alert application for Blackberrys that Mexico City’s government touted last week did not work Tuesday. Mexico City Mayor Marcelo Ebrard said the alert system has been working for quakes centered in two southern states and will begin to work for any tremors in Michoacan in the next few days.

Spain update

Spain again was on all the news services yesterday. The Stock market is dropping badly, and the news said it is connected to Europe’s, and particularly Spain’s critical situation. Go back and look at the words given about Europe over the last few months. Especially look at the word about France given Feb. 6th. There is a lot about Europe in general in that word. The rioting in the streets is happening now in Spain. That will spread to other Countries. The Lord is also revealing the true hidden hearts and agendas in European leaders and countries through all of this.

Rome 4/3/12

I still very much have the city of Rome on my heart. Pray for them, especially this week, and in particular Thursday-Sunday.

Places to pray for

Pray for the city of Rome. Pray for Spain. Continue to pray for Alaska

Heartland

Earlier this week I gave a word that the heartland was very vulnerable. The headlines after the Missouri storms were “Heartland hit hard.” I reiterated that word after those storms. Today, many places are being hit, but the heartland (Indiana) is being hit the hardest. The heartland remains vulnerable in the weeks ahead. Pray.
